In order to understand the nature of plant derived minerals, think about the three ways we can introduce minerals into our body. Remember that it is not what you put into the body that is important, it is what you put into the body that can be assimilated and made bioavailable.
The first type of mineral you could introduce into your body is a metallic mineral. Metallic minerals come from ancient sea beds and ground up rock and soil. Metallic minerals are classed as hydrophobic. They have a positive electrical charge and they represent sparingly soluble minerals with an inherent resistance to interaction with water. Basically this means most of them are not water soluble and hard to dissolve. According to numerous nutritional experts, the body can assimilate no more than 8% of the metallic minerals it consumes. This is the type of mineral that is found in most mineral supplements you buy at the grocery store. Let’s assume that you wanted to take 100 mg of a specific mineral each day. If you are using a metallic mineral supplement, it is possible that only 8% or 8 mg would be available each day for your body to really use.
The health food industry recognized the absorption problem years ago and developed the chelated mineral. A chelated mineral is nothing more than a metallic mineral that has been wrapped with a protein or amino acid which helps dissolve the metallic substance. This chelating process increases the assimilation or absorbability. However, a chelated mineral is still a metallic mineral that requires digestion before providing nutritional benefit.
The third type of mineral you can introduce into your body is a plant derived hydrophilic mineral. Hydrophilic minerals originally came from the earth through the root of a plant. They consist of macromolecular organic matter and polymeric precipitates because they have been digested by the plant. A hydrophilic mineral has a negative electrical charge and forms direct hydrogen bonds with water. Therefore it is water soluble and easy to dissolve without digestion. Almost 100% of a hydrophilic mineral is assimilated by the body and is made bioavailable for the body’s use. Generally, hydrophilic minerals are from 200 to 2,000 times smaller than metallic minerals. According to several wellknown scientists, some of the minerals in TRC Minerals® may be no larger than 0.0001 micron. This small size permits them to be absorbed through the skin or by the hair shaft.

Here I discuss the 5 parts of the definition of a mineral.
Answers to the test:
Kitchen Glass: Not a mineral. It is not naturally occurring and you may not know this off the top of your head, but glass does not have a crystalline structure. It was once melted minerals, but it froze too quickly for the compounds to arrange themselves in any specific way.
Oil: Not a mineral. This basically does not meet any of the criteria (except naturally occurring), but mostly it is because it is liquid and organic.
Obsidian (Nature’s glass): Not a mineral. Although this is naturally occurring, like I mentioned before, glass does not have a crystalline structure. It freezes too quickly for the atoms to properly arrange themselves.
Quartz: This is a mineral. It fits the definition.
Wood: Not a mineral. It is organic.
Frozen water (ice): As long as this isn’t made by humans (e.g. in the freezer) ice is considered a mineral. It fits the definition perfectly.

What you’ll need to get started today is a clear nail polish (preferably one without formaldehyde or toluene) also a mineral of your choice. What we are using today is our Taupe eyeshadow.
To prepare your nails, make sure you start with clean hands and if you have any lotion on your nails, be sure to get any oils off your nail beds prior. You may need to use a bit of alcohol to remove any excess oils.
Ok, so step 2 is you’re going to take your clear nail polish. Get off any extra, you don’t want too much and lightly dip it into your mineral powder. And then just apply with even strokes. You’ll want to go over it several times to get it blended because you don’t want to redip; it tends to get too dry if you redip it in the minerals the second time. You may need to do a little clean up. Just to show you the color.
So step 3, after it totally dries, you’ll notice it will get a little duller. So you just want to take an additional coat of clear and top it with that. It brings up a nice shine.
So lastly, repeat on all of your nails with your selected color and then we’ll be back in a couple of minutes to see 7 more additional colors that we tried out on the nails.
